The Improved Treasure Trails

After a very long time of no updates for the actual clues, it was time to update it. With over 50 new clues and 100 new rewards, Jagex released on December 5th an update for this challenging mini-game!

The basic idea of the Clue emote is very simple. There is a secret organization of agents that apparently have many caskets with clues. However you don’t get these caskets without doing something. An agent named Uri will tell you where to go, what to wear and what to do, before he will give you the casket. You can get these new Emote clues in every type of clue.

However, for level 3 clues, you need better (which are also harder to get) items than the items required for the level 1 clues.
For example a level 3 emote versus a level 1 emote:

level 3 Emote clue: “Blow a raspberry in the Fishing Guild bank. Beware of double agents! Equip an elemental shield, blue dragonhide chaps and a rune warhammer.” (You even need to have a high fishing level for this one!)

level 1 Emote clue: “Spin in Draynor Manor by the fountain. Equip an iron platebody, studded leather chaps and a bronze full helmet.”

So, this definitely made Treasure Trails a lot harder. In my opinion I don’t think they should have added the emote clues to the level 1 clues. You used to get a clue, spend 5 minutes or so doing it, and get a lousy reward. However, if you get 1 or 2 emote assignments, it can take quite some time to complete it, and you still get a lousy reward. However they did make the level 3 clues more interesting, with the addition of the Third Age armor. Third Age armor is the armor of the “powerful entities and agents of the gods”. You see, the three Gods of RuneScape (Guthix, Saradomin and Zamorak) were to find who was the most powerful of them by creating their own warriors, who were to fight with each other for over 4,000 years. After these fights, This armor was hidden for over another 2,000 years and is now being discovered by some extremely lucky people.

With the addition of these new clues and items, two rants were being made.

Jagex hates pures!
Jagex says they don’t. Pures says they do. Even Andrew had to make an official announcement saying that they didn’t hate pures. And frankly I agree with them. The problem is that you need to wear certain things to continue this clue. However if a pure would do this clue and he needs to equip a rune platebody, then he has a problem. So some of the pures are saying that the new emote clues should be removed from the game. Here’s Andrews response on it: Since we try to make completed content unlock further content as a reward, deliberately not doing a certain bit of content will prevent you from doing other bits. For example, if you deliberately chose not to the “Priest in Peril” quest. it would mean there were loads of other quests you also couldn’t do, but it would be absurd to complain that meant we “hate” people who haven’t done “Priest in Peril”!!
What else can I say? He’s right. If pures don’t want to train defense, than that’s their choice.

3rd Age armor is too good!
Third age armor is really expensive. An Armor top is 3x times more expensive than a dragon chain. Yet you can get Third Age armor from a simple clue, while you need to fight the second best monster in a game with a team of people for the dragon chain.
I laughed out loud when I first read this rant. And what scared me is that a lot of people actually agreed with him. I mean the chance for getting third age items is nearly zero. You’ve to do hundreds of level 3 clues before you will get a single piece. Yet for a dragon chain you can kill just “some” Dust Devils.

So basically, there’s nothing wrong with the entire update. It’s a great challenging addition to this mini-game. However it’s still, in my opinion, too hard for the level 1 clues.
