Falador Achievement diary

Not another one!

Oh yes, they’ve made another one. But not just one, they made two this time!

*faint*

That was short lived…oh well.

Yep, they released their fourth Achievement diary, the Falador chapter. They’ve also released a fifth one, the Fremmenik Province chapter. However due to massive animated piles of a blueish-purple metallic substance, I am unable to bring you that chapter today. So sorry.

So with that in mind, I bring you the…

Falador Achievement diary

Some people may be wondering which diary came first, Falador or Fremmenik, but to me it doesn’t matter. Tell me which came first, the chicken or the egg, and I’ll tell you which chapter came first.

So with that trivia out of the way we can finally get down to business, otherwise known as…

Starting the chapter

Before what you do around Falador counts towards this chapter you’ll have to talk to one of three people: Redbeard Frank (in Port Sarim), the Chemist (in Rimmington) or the Squire (in the White Knights’ Castle Courtyard). Asking them about the diary will unlock it and you’ll be able to start checking things off the list.

Easy

All of the easy tasks are, well, just that. Easy.

Total tasks: 15
Highest Skill requirement: 16 Construction (Discover your family crest from Sir Renitee)
Total Quest requirement: None
Hardest Quest requirement: None
Easiest Task: Fill a bucket from the pump north of the west Falador bank
Hardest Task: Enter the mole’s lair under Falador Park
Most Expensive Task: Buy a black chainbody from Wayne’s Chains, and try it on in the shop

You think you deserve a reward for completing all these tasks? They’re easy tasks, nobody gives rewards for easy tasks. Alright, so some people do.

If you’re…well if you do them all (which there’s absolutely no reason not to!) then you can run down to Port Sarim and speak with Redbeard Frank who will reward you with some Pirate Treasure (which looks amazingly like an antique lamp), a new emote, and a Falador shield 1. The piece of Pirate treasure will give you 1,000 experience in the skill of your choice, that is if the skill of your choice is above level 30.

The emote can only be executed when you’re wielding the shield and ‘operate’ it from your worn inventory. It shows you putting the shield out in front of you and then an image of a shield moves out forward from it and disappears. The shield itself is a buckler with the symbol of Saradomin on it. It gives low level stats and a +3 prayer bonus. What makes the buckler most worth having is its ability to restore 25% of your total prayer every day! You can either operate it from your worn inventory or left click on it in your main inventory to activate this feature. Both ways have a conformation so that you do not waste it.

Medium

The medium tasks are pretty much that also, requiring you to kill two mid-level monsters and have fairly mid level skills.

Total tasks: 12
Highest Skill requirement: 49 Firemaking (Light a bullseye lantern in the chemist’s)
Total Quest requirement: 5
Hardest Quest requirement: Rat Catchers
Easiest Task: Crawl under Falador’s south wall
Hardest Task: Kill an ice giant in the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon
Most Expensive Task: Salute Sir Tiffy while wearing full initiate armour

You still think these tasks are worthy of reward? Well, some other people do to.

If you head down to the West side of Rimmington and talk to the Chemist you’ll be rewarded with lamp(which he can’t seem to light) and an upgrade to your Falador Shield 1 (which is now a Falador Shield 2). With this upgrade comes the ability to gain increased experience in the Farming patches south of Falador when wielding the shield. The upgraded shield now also restores 50% of your total prayer points per day (PPPD, o.O) and gives a +5 prayer bonus. Its other defenses have also been raised but not by much (and I mean that, unfortunately). If you try to rub the ‘lamp'(a little spit and polish never hurt anything, right?) then you’ll find yourself rewarded with 5,000 experience in the skill of your choice (providing it’s above 30, like before).

Hard

We all know Jagex’s general opinion of hard, right? “Oh no! I have to raise my hand, that’s SOOOO hard!“….Ok, so maybe I exaggerated a little…alright a lot. The hard tasks aren’t easy but I would not classify most of them as Hard.

Total tasks: 10
Highest Skill requirement: 72 Slayer (Kill a skeletal wyvern in the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon)
Total Quest requirement: 5
Hardest Quest requirement: A Fairy Tale Part II – Cure a Queen (Dial to the fairy ring on Mudskipper Point)
Easiest Task: Enter the Mining Guild
Hardest Task: Kill a skeletal wyvern in the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon
Most Expensive Task: Most likely ‘Kill a skeletal wyvern in the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon’, though it could be ‘Cut down a yew tree that you grew in Falador Park’ if you already had a Magic tree growing there.

Your still want rewards? Are you sure you’re not just greedy? I admit, these tasks are worthy of reward.

Talking to the Squire in the Courtyard of the White Knights’ Castle will yield you a Shiny new upgraded Falador shield (now named Falador shield 3), an old Teapot, even more experience when farming in the patches south of Falador, and the ability to trade mole skins to Wyson the gardener for some new seeds. The upgrade for your shiny new tower shield (which looks nothing like a tower shield) not only consists of a renaming and revamping but also of the ability to completely restore 100% of your prayer points per day (there’s that PPPD again) along with additional defense stats and a +7 to prayer bonus. The additional defensive are quite a let down, actually, as they don’t even come close to a Runite Kiteshield.

Rubbing the old Teapot will grant you 10,000 experience in the skill of your choice (provided it’s above…ahh you get the picture). More experience when farming, who’s going to complain about that?

According to a little birdy, the seeds you can get from Wyson are called ‘White lilly seeds’ and grant protection from disease for all allotment plants when planted in a nearby flower patch.

Now, to…

Summarize

Total tasks: 37
Highest Skill requirement: 72 Slayer (Kill a skeletal wyvern in the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon)
Total Quest requirement: 10
Hardest Quest requirement: A Fairy Tale Part II – Cure a Queen (Dial to the fairy ring on Mudskipper Point)
Easiest Task: Fill a bucket from the pump north of the west Falador bank
Hardest Task: Kill a skeletal wyvern in the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon
Most Expensive Task: Most likely ‘Kill a skeletal wyvern in the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon’, though it could be ‘Cut down a yew tree that you grew in Falador Park’ if you already had a Magic tree growing there.

Apparently killing Skeletal Wyverns will be quite popular over the next few days. I killed one last night, they really aren’t very hard. Just put protection from melee on, wear an elemental shield, bring some food and a good one handed weapon (like a DD and a Whip) and go fight ’em.

Total Rewards: Falador Shield 3, 16,000 experience (split up in 1,000, 5,000, and 10,000 increments), a new emote, more experience when using the Farming Patches south of Falador, new seeds from Wyson the Gardener, and the ability to restore 100% of your Prayer points per day (There’s PPPD again!).

The Falador shield 3 is also now officially the best prayer bonus shield in the game, giving a bonus of +7. God books only give +5.

Trivia

Did you know that on the first day the Chemist in Rimmington spoke with a typo in the word ‘I’ when he talked about the antique lamp reward?

Or the bug that allowed a player to be assisted by another player with a higher Runecrafting level to complete the task of creating 196 runes in one action?
Jagex noticed this the next day and changed it.

So, why are you still here? Either write a comment or go do the new chapter – The Falador Achievement Diary!

What exactly is the Easiest way to Backup Sites?. I have been using WP DPManager and another plugin. The initial one would seem to back up only the content. The second backs up the plugin, theme and photographs but everytime there is an upgrade to WP I’ve to perform some thing with the .htaccess file and I cant remember what I did!. So how are you backing up your web-sites? Do you back up just content or pictures plug in theme and so on?. What do you feel may be the best way to do it?
